Using power management
With Switch King it is not required to have the computer on at all times to control devices. Switch King can automatically suspend the computer (standby or hibernate) and wake it up when it is time to send control signals to devices. When you want to use the computer on your own you just start it as usual and notify Switch King that you are using the computer. When you are done you allow Switch King to suspend the computer again.
It is the client that is responsible for the power management function and the client must be executed on the computer where the server is running. It is possible to connect multiple clients to the same server so even of you have a client and the server running on one computer it is possible to connect with additional clients from other computers.
Settings for Power Management
Select Options in the Tools menu och select the Power Management tab. On this tab you can select to activate the function and adjust different settings.
Minimum amount of time to suspend system: Define how long time that at least must elapse until the next event to allow Switch King to suspend the computer. If the setting for instance is 15 minutes then the next event must occur in at least 15 minutes for Switch King to suspend the computer.
Time before event to wake up system: This time defines how long before the next event that the computer should wake up. If the next event occurs at for instance 6.30 pm and the setting is 2 minutes, then the computer will wake up at 6.28 pm.
Minimum amount of time that system should stay awake: Defines how long time that the computer at least will stay on from the time it was waken up by Switch King.
You can also define that the computer should be kept awake between different times, for instance between 6.00 pm and 10.00 pm. This is useful if you use the computer for other tasks than Switch King, but still want to be able to control your devices during other times of the day without having to keep the computer powered on all the time.
Using the Power Management function
It is important that it is Switch King that is responsible for suspending the computer for this function to work properly. When you are about to shut down the computer you should select Suspend System Now in the Tools menu (you can also right click the Switch King icon in the notification area).
Switch King will wake up the computer when it is time for the next event to occur, send the control signals and then suspend the computer again.
