Simulate sunrise in your bedroom
By using Switch King you can arrange a dawn simulator in your bedroom. The light intensity of one or more lamps can be gradually increased before you are awaken by the alarm clock. The human body is then better prepared for the wake up and it is (hopefully) a little easier to get up (different hormones are affected by the light).
This is what you need:
- Self Learning Dimmer, e.g. NEXA LYCR-300 W Dimmer
- A lamp that can be dimmed (e.g. halogen lamp or regular light bulb)
This guide requires that you have added a device according to above in Switch King.
Create schedule
Open options for the device you want to use as dawn simulator and navigate to the tab for the device's schedule.
Add events and enter time for each dimmer level. It is recommended to increase the light for about half an hour before the alarm clock sets off.
In the example below you can see the schedule for a lamp used for this purpose.
Configure the lamp to avoid it from turning off at sunrise
Navigate to the Functions tab and clear "Turn device Off at sunrise".
The lamp will now not be turned off at sunrise (when the curtains are down the lamp will act as sun instead), but it can still be turned on at sunset. Note! When using the function to only turn on at sunset (but not turn off at sunrise) then Forced must be selected for each schedule event in the morning.
Now you can add additional events in the evening so the lamp can be used as a regular lamp in the evening. Since the lamp is controlled by a dimmer you can set a suitable dimmer level for the lamp in the evening.
Add scenario as supplement
On weekends and holidays it can be nice to sleep-in and this is managed on its own since you can select which week days that the dawn simulator should be active (typically Monday to Friday). You can also configure a delayed wake-up in the weekend by adding separate events for that.
Sometimes you may want to sleep-in even on a regular week day. This can be solved by adding a scenario - Sleep-in.
Select that the lamp(s) in the bedroom should be Off. All other devices can be set to "By schedule". Activate the Sleep-in scenario before you go to bed in the evening and then you will not be disturbed in the morning. At 11.00 am the scenario will end and all devices will start to run according to their schedules again.
