Control engine warmer depending on temperature
In this guide you will find step-by-step instructions for how to control an engine warmer depending on the outside temperature. Two different variants are described.
This guide requires that you have already created a data source that collects the outside temperature.
Variant A
1. Create group schedule and define schedule
Select New - Group Schedule in the File menu to create and define your group schedule.
Click the Add Rule button in the Rules tab. Select the data source for outside temperature and define the condition for when you wish the device using the schedule to be turned on.
Select the rule you want to use for the group schedule.
2. Link the group schedule to the device for the engine warmer
Link the new group schedule to the device for the engine warmer and clear Take sunrise/sunset into consideration in the Functions tab.
Done! The device for the engine warmer will now be on between 5.30 am to 8.00 am if the temperature outside is below 5 °C. The device is turned off if the outside temperature rises above 5 °C.
If you want to avoid that the device is turned off once it has been turned on then have a look at variant B.
Turn the engine warmer on at different times depending on the temperature
It is possible to turn the engine warmer on at different times depending on how cold it is by creating several group schedules with different rules and link these to the device for the engine warmer.
Example:
Schedule A: On 6.00 am Off 8.00 am if outside temperature is below -15°C
Schedule B: On 6.45 am Off 8.00 am if outside temperature is below 0°C
Schedule C: On 7.30 am Off 8.00 am if outside temperature is below 10°C
Link all three schedules to the device for the engine warmer.
Variant B
This variant is making use of Switching Delay to make sure the device stays on between 5.30 am to 8.00 am once it has been turned on..
1. Create group schedule and define schedule
Create schedule according to variant A, but define a short interval for the device to be turned on.
Create rule and link it to schedule according to variant A.
2. Link the group schedule to the device for the engine warmer
Link the group schedule to the device for the engine warmer and clear Take sunrise/sunset into consideration in the Functions tab according to variant A.
Then navigate to the Advanced tab and enter Switching Delay.
If the condition for temperature (below 5 °C) is fulfilled sometime between 5.30 am to 5.35 am then the device will be turned on for 2.5 hours before it is switched off. Even if the temperature rises the device will remain turned on until the 2.5 hours have elapsed.
